JAKARTA: Indonesia’s leading mobile telecommunications provider Telkomsel is anticipating the use of mobile wallet (T-cash) for mobile commerce will double in August.
T-cash uses mobile phones to buy products and services from appointed merchants and to pay bills.
Telkomsel obtained a licence to operate from Bank Indonesia in January 2008, as required by Indonesia’s Electronic Transaction Law, and reported over 10,000 T-cash users in July.
Telkomsel is now working together with BNI Bank to design its remittance solution programme which will enable the user to transfer funds from overseas to their account in Indonesia.
The service will be extended to merchants at supermarkets, department stores, shopping malls, public transport, vending machines, shops, hospitals, book stores, restaurants and gas stations.
Telkomsel is part of the Bridge Mobile Alliance (a joint venture of big cellular operators in the Asia Pacific region) and has over 50,000,000 subscribers.
