The web portal was developed from, and replaced, the biz.org.nz website a year ago, on15 August 2007, and has attracted more than 300,000 visitors in the past year.
Adi Christie, NZTE’s Project Director for the web site, said that research by independent company Nielsen Online showed almost a quarter of New Zealand businesses had visited business.govt.nz since it was launched.
“Nielsen found that 69 percent of businesses that used the portal rated it highly as a trusted source of business information. Among those that made return visits, half of them rated it as a ‘one-stop shop’ for all their business information needs,” Ms Christie said.
A recent survey by independent research company Nielsen Online found that people were using business.govt.nz to find information that makes it easier to run a business. They were looking for information about business topics such as starting a business, compliance and regulations, and how to grow their business.
“The Nielsen survey found that over half of the site‘s visitors are business owners and among the visitors who are not business owners, 45 percent are thinking about starting a business,” Ms Christie said.
While most visitors to business.govt.nz were based in New Zealand, it attracted visits from 206 different countries. After New Zealand, the most visitors came from the USA, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
Visitors to
business.govt.nz came from a wide variety of industries and most are from small firms with fewer than 10 employees.
The site is full of practical information, useful business tools and smart ideas. Since it launched, the most visited topics have been:
“The site has got off to a great start and we’re excited by just how many people have found it a reliable and trusted source of New Zealand business information,” Ms Christie said.
“Our first 12 months have been very exciting and we’re looking forward to developing the web site even more over the coming year,” she said.
